Rockford to Ottawa (Day 2 in Transit)

Day 2 was a pretty moderate ride of 76.8 miles south from Rockford to Ottawa.  Although into a mild 5-8 mile per hour headwind, made excellent time of 16.5 miles per hour — not too bad for a bike with gear that weighs in at 90 pounds!  Here is some of the additional gear that I am carrying with me, including bike tools/equipment and overnight camping gear:

Today is a very exciting day for me because I will be touring the Grand Ridge site, which incorporates a wind site, a solar farm, and battery storage — the Holy Grail of renewable energy.  Then, it is a long slog west towards the Mississippi River and Davenport, Iowa.  Not sure if I will make it all the way, but sure will try.

Finally, a quick shoutout to UW-Madison distance degree students from UTC Aerospace in Rockford.  As I was in Rockford, couldn’t resist the opportunity for a photo shot — ON WISCONSIN!
