#BiketheSun

Do you remember #BiketheWind? Prof. Jim Tinjum is hitting the road again, this time to raise funds for Solar Para Niños with #BiketheSun!

In late July, Jim is biking 1,600 km around the Upper Midwest in to visit solar sites, increase awareness of solar energy and raise funds for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico.

The bike journey will take him to nearly 50 solar power sites across Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. Riding an electric bike prototype with a plan to bike 160 km per day, the trip should last about 10 days.

Last summer, Jim embarked on a 2,000-km bike ride called #BiketheWind to raise awareness about wind energy, so he’s not unfamiliar with these long trips with causes. To prepare for this year’s ride, his training consisted of biking up to 24 hours a week, getting in hours by biking to “everything,” including work, groceries and intramural soccer matches.

Jim departs for his journey on Saturday, July 28 from Madison, Wisconsin.

Keep up with Tinjum’s planning and trip through his blog and follow #BiketheSun on social media, and consider donating to the trip to help fund Solar Para Niños.
